The BTC 185x series were Plug & Play sound cards offering 16-bit stereo sound sampling delivered at CD-quality rates up to 44.1KHz. The cards were all based on the ESS ES1868F FM music synthesizer with their own ESFM(TM) OPL3-compatible emulation. The 1857 and 1859 offered '3D spacializer' technology, allowing surround sound to be simulated from two speakers.
