It provided 3D positional audio support via its onboard Q3D from QSound, which included EAX 1.0, Aureal 3D (A3D 1.0) and Microsoft DirectSound / Direct3D. The card was fully AC'97- and PC'97-compliant, and the game/MIDI port was fully MPU-401 compatible in UART mode only. The software wavetable provided up to 128 voices with a choice of 676 instruments, 21 drum kits and 3 effects (reverb, chorus and variation).
The card is fully capable of running legacy DOS applications and games via its onboard DDMA (Distributed DMA), PC/PCI support, "Serial-IRQ", plus its own ForteMedia proprietary mode. These would have required a DOS driver to be loaded and resident in memory for these features to work.
The ForteMedia FM801 was also used on a few other sound cards, including:
- A-Max SP801
- A-Trend Harmony 6
Board Revisions
Just one board revision is known: 1.0.
Competition
Probably the biggest competitors to this card were the Ensoniq AudioPCI (later bought by Creative and rebranded), and those with an onboard Aureal Vortex chip.

Setting it Up
You could configure the two line-outs to either be at line level (no amplifier) or headphone level (amplified) by switching the jumpers at J17.
