The XWave 512 series was based on the ES1989 Allegro chipset, which was an AC'97-compliant audio controller for the PCI bus. Its 3D positional audio used Sensaura 3D but was able to response to API calls made to EAX and Aureal 3D.
The card had a PC/PCI header for legacy audio support with a compatible PC/PCI motherboard,
