The S3 Trio64V+ graphics controller chip added integrated Digital Video Engine to support accelerated playback of video clip files, including Video for Windows, Indeo, Cinepak and more.
STB Systems said at the time: 'No previous graphics adapter offers the full-screen and full-motion playback performance of the STB POWERGRAPH 64 VIDEO. With 2MB of EDO DRAM, the POWERGRAPH 64 VIDEO graphics accelerator supports standard 64-bit graphics resolutions at the highest possible refresh rates - up to 160Hz! While traditional video adapters may play back video as slow as 7 frames per second, the POWERGRAPH 64 VIDEO is capable of full-screen, full-motion video at 30 frames per second. At that speed, the human eye sees a sharp, smoothly-flowing video image comparable to a television display. STB has the technology to make TV-quality video a dazzling on-screen reality!'
Its 2D acceleration features included hardware acceleration of Bit-Block transfers (BitBLTs), line drawing, cursor operation, dual address bus, read and write bursting, and hardware cursor.
The 1 MB card was expandable to 2 MB.

STB Systems Announces Bundling Agreement with GATEWAY 2000(tm)
The STB Systems POWERGRAPH 64 Video Graphics Controller Delivers TV-Quality Video Performance
Richardson, Texas (October 26, 1995) - STB(r) Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-STBI) unveiled a major design win today, with the announcement that personal computer manufacturer Gateway 2000 has selected the STB POWERGRAPH 64 Video as a DRAM-based solution for Gateway's desktop computers.
Under the contract announced today, STB graphics/multimedia accelerators will be incorporated into Gateway 2000's line of value performance-oriented Pentium-based computer systems.
Breakthrough Technology
Graphics accelerators consist of a printed circuit board containing an accelerator chip, memory components and various software support programs. An emerging generation of advanced graphics accelerator boards enable today's personal computers to deliver near-photo quality images and full motion video playback performance.
According to Gateway 2000, the STB Systems POWERGRAPH 64 Video was selected based on its technical merits, its ability to accelerate and scale digital video and on the power and flexibility of STB's supporting utility software, STB VISION.
"The key to providing our customers the quality they expect and deserve, is to select and work with the very best vendors we can find," says Rob Cheng, Gateway 2000's Vice President of Marketing. "In this case, STB delivered innovative technology at a great value and that's why we selected the POWERGRAPH 64 Video for our Pentium-based computers."
The POWERGRAPH 64 Video represents STB's seventh consecutive design win with Gateway 2000. "Our North American manufacturing capabilities, and the strengths of the POWERGRAPH 64 Video design itself, give STB a significant competitive advantage," observes STB Systems' Vice President of Sales and Marketing Shane Long. "The future of computer graphics lies in the ability to bring full-motion/full-screen video and graphics to the user's screen."
"The POWERGRAPH 64 Video combines a fast graphics engine with a new standard in video playback," Long says, "which finally addresses consumers' expectations of multimedia functionality."
Gateway 2000 has also recently awarded STB Systems its 1995 "Gateway's Supplier Certification Award". This certification reflects STB's track record of performance as a preferred Gateway supplier. The award is the culmination of a rigorous series of manufacturing process and quality audits designed to assure the highest possible quality in all Gateway 2000 components, subsystems and final products.
"We value greatly our position as a long-term supplier to Gateway 2000 and we are pleased that Gateway has chosen the POWERGRAPH 64 Video," said Bill Ogle, STB's Chairman and CEO. "We look forward to working closely with Gateway on future STB advanced multimedia architectures and products."
