The 12 MB of onboard EDO DRAM were split into 4 MB as standard display memory and 4 MB for each of the two 3D texture engines. With these two texture engines, the Stingray/2 was able to simultaneously apply two textures to a triangle to accomplish single-pass, single-cycle rendering of effects such as trilinear filtering, sophisticated lighting, spotlights and detail texturing. The Hercules Stingray/2's dual texture design effectively doubled the texture fill rate and provided dramatic 3D performance increases.
The Hercules drivers also came with HercuMeter utility to allow easy adjustment of the Stingray/2's engine clock from the factory setting to in excess of 100MHz.
Since Voodoo2 maintained full software compatibility with Microsoft's Direct3D, 3Dfx's Glide and OpenGL, all 3Dfx accelerated games for Voodoo2 would run on the Hercules Stingray/2. The Hercules Stingray/2 was PCI bus 2.1 compliant (33/66MHz) and supported Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, MS-DOS, and Windows NT 4.0. 3D API support included GLiDE, Direct3D, and OpenGL for game applications using a MiniGL library.
A version of the card called the Stingray 2/TV was also released. The only difference was the addition of a TV-out (S-Video and Composite) port.
Its core clock ran at 93 MHz.
