Introduction

Jazz Jackrabbit is a platform game with you playing Jazz on a mission to rescue the rabbit princess Eva Earlong and save their home planet of Carrotus. On the way you will travel between planets to collect clues as to where the princess has been taken hostage by the head of the turtle terrorists, Devan Shell.

Along the way, shoot everything that moves and if it doesn't, pick it up. Jazz is able to get more firepower from the humble blaster you start the first level with, including TNT, grenade launchers, flamethrower and more.

There are many hidden sections in the game plus bonus rounds after each level where Jazz traverses a road in 3D collecting gems to get an extra life.

From where can it be run?

The game must be installed to your hard disk. If you have floppy disk images, you can copy the contents of all floppy disks to a single hard disk directory and run INSTALL from there. There is no need to use SUBST to simulate a floppy drive letter.

 

Copy Protection

Jazz Jackrabbit has no copy protection.

 

How to Setup

Insert the first floppy disk, run INSTALL.EXE and follow the on-screen instructions:

Once the installation is complete, run SETUP.EXE to configure your sound card:

 

Problems

Symptom: I get an error when loading Jazz Jackrabbit, stating there's not enough memory.
Cause: Jazz requires a minimum of 4 MB of memory in your PC.
Resolution: It doesn't matter if it's Conventional, XMS or EMS. Total free memory must be 2.5 MB as a minimum.

Symptom: I get an error when loading Jazz Jackrabbit that appears to be a general protection fault.
Cause: Your machine is too fast to run the game.
Resolution: Slow down your PC to a fast 386 or 486 machine using slowdown tools or disable one or more of your caches, and try again.

Keys

Use the arrow keys to move Jazz around, SPACE to fire, and ALT to jump.
Pressing 'P' will pause the game.

 

To Quit the Game

Hit ESC while playing to bring up the in-game menu, choose "Quit Game" to go back to the main menu, then choose "Exit Game" to return to DOS.

The game manual is on the disks, accessible by running 'HELPME' from the DOS prompt, or when in-game via the menu.

Save Games

The game has no save functionality. When going through a level there are set save points you can shoot at. After these, whenever you lose a life you will start from that save point.
