Database Downloads

This page provides downloads of some of the more common database packages that were available for DOS. The programs on this page are to be used at your own risk. They are made available here on the basis that they are considered 'abandonware' by their original authors, or the authors' policy on reproduction is that it is permitted.

Most of these download files are compressed with 7zip (.7z), and within them may contain raw disk images in .IMG format. To extract the data from the image files use WinImage.

Where downloads are greyed-out it means there are copies around on the internet but I have not secured permissions to use DOS Days as a download repository for that application or utility.

Borland

Borland acquired Ashton-Tate in 1991, so if you're looking for dBase IV 1.5 of higher, go to the Ashton-Tate section further down.

Reflex
Version 2.0 (1989)

Borland Reflex is a flat file database system with a fully graphical user interface and built in graphing.

Borland Reflex was based on the Macintosh database product Interlace from Singular Software.

Paradox
Version 2.01 (1987)

Paradox is a high-speed relational database product that integrates with Borland's "Turbo" products. It was notable for its Query By Example (QBE) feature, and its Paradox Active Language (PAL).

Originally written by Ansa Software. Subsequent versions were sold by Borland.

Ashton-Tate

Borland acquired Ashton-Tate in 1991, so versions of dBase IV from 1.5 onwards were sold under the Borland label. There was never a 'version 1' of dBase from Ashton-Tate.

dBase II
Version 2.4 (1983)

Ashton-Tate's dBase was an early popular database management system for CP/M and MS-DOS.

dBase III Plus
Version 1.1 (1986)

dBase IV
Version 1.0 (1988)

dBase IV was a major rewrite. Compared to dBase III, this version was much slower, less stable, and very buggy.

Version 1.1 (1990)

dBase IV version 1.1.was much more stable than 1.0, and performance was improved.

Others

The rights to MicroPro International's software are believed to be owned by The Learning Company (formerly called SoftKey) after their merger with MicroPro in 1993.

MicroPro DataStar
Version 1.4 (1983)

MicroPro DataStar 1.4 is a desktop database for early IBM PCs and compatibles. It was often used in conjunction with ReportStar and sometimes bundled together as InfoStar.
