ATI VGA Wonder XL24

The VGA Wonder XL24 was one of the last of the 'Wonder' series of cards from ATI, since the faster next-gen Mach8 had already arrived. As such, it got a bus mouse connector found on the more premium ATI cards of the time, as well as a 9-pin digital TTL port for MDA/Hercules/CGA and EGA output.

At launch it was the new budget-oriented model, with the Ultra Plus in the mid-range, and Ultra Pro and Graphics Vantage at the premium end.

The VGA Wonder XL24 was based around the ATi 28800-6 (Rev.6) chip from early 1992 which was also used on later revisions of the VGA Wonder 1024D. These were ATi's second-generation Wonder graphics chip after the 188xx series used on the original VGA Wonder and VGA Wonder 16 cards.

The cards come with the capability of 1 MB onboard, via two banks of 512 KB DRAM chips. Factory 512 KB cards can be upgraded by simply adding four more DRAMs (80ns is typical).

The XL24's RAMDAC supported Hi-Color and True Colour graphics modes.
